This course is designed for gifted and talented students; this elite program has a strong research focus. It provides the flexibility of a Bachelor of Science plus advanced units that are not available to other students. They will have direct contact with researchers and academics and their skills will be nurtured with individual attention in a small select advanced science group. In this degree they will develop their problem-solving skills, independent and critical thinking and be exposed to cutting-edge research. They will have the opportunity to undertake their own research project in third year and will gain practical experience in research laboratories and research groups. Chemistry is: the science of converting one substance into another; the molecular interpretation of the world around us. It plays a key role in their economy, environment, lifestyle and health, and in processes happening in the natural world. A major in chemistry can lead to a wide range of careers including medical, veterinary, agricultural and environmental analysis, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries, science education, science journalism, and biomedical and chemical research. It is also an excellent foundation for postgraduate studies in medicine and pharmacy. Career options include: drug discovery, environmental monitoring, mining and geo-exploration, paints and coatings technology, patent law, pharmaceuticals, plastics industry, quality control, researcher, sales representative, teaching.

Students should have completed the NSW HSC or equivalent. They should also have IELTS (Academic English only): Minimum 6.5 overall, with 6.0 in each section; TOEFL (paper based test): Minimum 570 overall, with 53 Listening, 52 Reading, 59 Structure/ Written Expression, 4.5 TWE;TOEFL (internet based test): Minimum 90 overall, with 20 Listening, 20 Reading, 22 Writing, 20 Speaking.
