This program is a dialogue between the past and present. Historians explore the diversity of human experience to draw out patterns and ideas that help us understand the world today. The focus of the major in history is on the knowledge and critical skills of the discipline that can be applied to the study of the past in all its dimensions, including important professional skills such as communication, analysis, critical thinking, and interpretation. Students have the opportunity to make history and undertake independent research projects relevant to their own interests. The units provide the scope to work in education, exploring histories of place and culture. Through the study of cultural heritage and interpretation students engage with contemporary issues and ways of presenting the past. Students can undertake learning opportunities in the community through a number of units as well as assessment opportunities. Professional placement provides the opportunity to gain experience in the workplace. Students in the writing major may seek placement in the writing, publishing and media industries, while students in history may seek placement in heritage and historical museums or associations. Students in the cultural studies major may also seek professional placement with a community organisation working in an area of their interest. Community history project enables students to do a collaborative project with community partners. Other opportunities for community-engaged learning exist within the degree depending on units chosen. It builds critical thinking, creative practice, research and writing skills, with a strong emphasis on community engagement giving graduates a wide range of career options. The flexible nature of the course structure enables students to choose more than one major and a range of elective units, which further enhances future career options. Depending on choice of majors, graduates may find employment in community relations, cultural policy, management and administration, education, publishing, public service, multimedia design, creative and cultural industries, politics, social justice and human rights.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students should have completed an educational qualification deemed to be at least equivalent to completion of year 12 in Australia and achieved the equivalent of the minimum entry grade for the course for which they have applied. They should have fulfilled the Universitys English language requirement: IELTS (academic) score of 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band or TOEFL score of 550 with no less than 4.5 in the test of written English or TOEFL Internet-based with a minimum score or 79 and a minimum of 22 in writing and no less than 18 in other bands or equivalent.
