Ringkasan program
This course should allow students to understand, apply and adapt a coherent body of knowledge, the underlying principles and concepts in socio-legal studies and the adjacent areas of law and criminology in a range of contexts to a level necessary for many areas of vocational and professional employment. While this major is not a required pathway to the Juris Doctor (JD), it is a very appropriate pathway in that it allows students to have contact with the Faculty of Law which may assist them to make more informed choices about further study. Graduates in this major will have a solid foundation for career options in a variety of roles in the private sector and in government. These include law-related policy and research roles in law reform and justice agencies, and various positions in those sectors that draw on an appropriate level of knowledge of law, such as human resources, industrial relations and a range of government organizations and non government organizations involved in areas such as human rights, equal opportunity, health care, social services, law enforcement and legal assistance and legal administration. Students with a Law and Society major may pursue further studies by undertaking a Graduate Diploma or Masters in Criminal Justice. Alternatively, students may choose to study Law as a professional qualification by taking the Juris Doctor.

Students must have completed Western Australian Universities Preparatory Program (WAUPP) with a score of 63, International Baccalaureate with a score of 29, French Baccalaureate with a score of 12, UWA Foundation Program (UWAFP) with a score of 66, GCE or Cambridge Advanced-level Examinations with a score of 8. To be eligible for admission to a program at UWA, they must demonstrate satisfactory performance in a UWA-approved test of English. This is the case even if English is their first language. They must also have WA Certificate of Education in English, Literature or English as an additional language/dialect with scaled mark of 50 or above, in stage 2 or stage 3. TEE English/English Literature with scaled mark of 50 or above English as a Second Language with final mark of 66.60 or above (in 2007). There are different English language requirement for various states.
