This program provides the opportunity to complete both the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Bachelor of Biomedical Science with Honors programs in three years. Students are introduced to medical research under the guidance of an academic staff mentor. Advanced research training is undertaken within the laboratories of the Griffith Institute for Health and Medical Research (GIHMR). The program develops the knowledge and skills in modern biosciences and clinical sciences, emphasizing their application to biomedical research, medicine and the health science professions. Students undertake advanced research training within this program. The program provides a pathway to PhD studies. Because of the valuable role they play in modern medicine, biomedical scientists are highly prized by hospitals, health departments, biomedical research institutes, university and government research organizations, and in the pharmaceutical, diagnostic, biotechnology and other health-related industries. They may also choose to enroll in one of Griffith's postgraduate coursework masters programs that provide professional training for careers in medical research, clinical biochemistry, clinical physiology, clinical microbiology, genetic counseling and forensic science, or as a dietician nutritionist or biomedical research scientist. The linking of these professional training programs with the undergraduate degree is unique to Griffith University and provides excellent career outcomes.

Students should have completed a senior secondary school qualification regarded as comparable to an Australian Year 12 award. International students whose native is not English should have the following requirements: a minimum overall band score of 6.0 on IELTS (Academic) with no sub-score of less than 5.5; a minimum score of 550 on TOEFL; an internet-based (iBT) TOEFL score of 79 (no score less than 19); no score less than three in each skill of the ISLPR (conducted by GELI or ISLPR Language Services only); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE); a minimum grade of C on the Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE).
