Human Resource Management is a key strategic component for most mid-to-large-sized public and private sector organizations in Australia - as employers continue to seek better ways to acquire, retain, and develop top talent. This presents a wealth of opportunity for individuals with good business sense, who also believe the human element is one of the most vital aspects of an efficient and successful organization. Human resource management explores the concepts, principles and systems associated with the management of employees. It's also a key driver for modern organizations in achieving competitive advantage. The university will help students to develop a strong understanding of the strategic role human resource management plays by examining: employment policies and legal and environmental regulations, recruitment activity including interviewing techniques and hiring, employee retention including rewards and recognition, and motivation, occupation health and safety issues including diversity, ethics and discrimination, employee communications, as well as negotiating and bargaining and performance appraisal and job assessments. They will also learn about organizational design and the future of human resources, as organizations strive to develop new ways to meet the demands of the modern working family, and cope with changes in attitudes towards common work practices. On graduating with this degree they will also become eligible for professional membership of the Australian Human Resource Institute (AHRI).

Students applying to Murdoch University on the basis of their completed secondary school studies need to achieve the following: WA Certificate of Education (WACE), achieved at high school graduation, or its equivalent; a scaled mark of 50 or more in English, Literature, or English as an additional language or dialect (all stage 2 or 3), or equivalent English competency; an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) between 60.00 - 64.99 (indicative). A combination of the following types of qualifications may be assessed to determine non-school leavers’ eligibility: high school results; previous university study, minimum of 2 units successfully completed; TAFE/VET qualifications, Cert IV or higher; Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) score of 140 in written English and 135 in multiple choice or, for results prior to 2010, a score of 145 in both sections; Murdoch Institute of Technology, or other equivalent university preparation courses; equity based programs; work experience and a personal statement.
