This course is taught from the perspective of a functioning organization, and includes corporate finance issues such as the appropriate mix of equity and debt to finance projects, identifying the optimal dividend policy, and the resourceful selection of business projects. They can also learn aspects of investment finance including risk and return trade-offs, workings of the capital markets, investment products and investment portfolios, and appropriate risk management techniques. If they choose to pursue a career as a financial economist, they have the option to combine their Finance major with a major in Economics. This major is taught through a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, and other in-class activities. UWA Finance academics are known for their work on the behavior of capital markets, and they bring this knowledge to the classroom. In addition to the fundamental theories that have shaped the current thinking on financial issues, students learn about the major issues of the day, such as the recent global financial crisis and significant corporate and economy-wide events. Critical analysis, leadership skills, effective communication, ethical thinking and the development of life-long research skills are the hallmarks of UWA's major in Finance. Finance graduates find employment as financial consultants, investment bankers, credit managers, financial analysts, and financial engineers in banks, corporations and financial institutions. Students can pursue further studies at honors level or undertake a generalist master’s degree such as the Master of Commerce or Master of Business Administration.

Students must have completed Western Australian Universities Preparatory Program (WAUPP) with a score of 63, International Baccalaureate with a score of 29, French Baccalaureate with a score of 12, UWA Foundation Program (UWAFP) with a score of 66, GCE or Cambridge Advanced-level Examinations with a score of 8. To be eligible for admission to a program at UWA, they must demonstrate satisfactory performance in a UWA-approved test of English. This is the case even if English is their first language. They must also have WA Certificate of Education in English, Literature or English as an additional language/dialect with scaled mark of 50 or above, in stage 2 or stage 3. TEE English/English Literature with scaled mark of 50 or above English as a Second Language with final mark of 66.60 or above (in 2007). There are different English language requirement for various states.
