This course is the first of two degrees needed to become an architect. Students wishing to qualify for professional recognition as architects must also complete the Master of Architecture (C04235). UTS architecture courses provide the skills and knowledge necessary to practise in the architectural profession and to be a future leader in the design of the built environment. The Bachelor of Design in Architecture provides students with a rich education oriented towards international practice and design experimentation. Teaching is hands-on and undertaken in teams using the most innovative digital design and fabrication technologies available to the architectural profession in dedicated studios and workshops. UTS students have the benefit of learning from a cohesive team who are passionate about architecture and engage with the discipline as practitioners, researchers, educators and critics. The first year is undertaken full time, but in subsequent years students can enrol part time, making it possible to gain significant professional experience before graduation. This degree provides a liberal introduction to the study of architecture as a discipline. Students gain a critical and ethical awareness of architecture as a discipline with much to offer in the face of many of today's most pressing societal challenges. It equips students to join other design fields or related disciplines, and it prepares students for the Master of Architecture degree. There are many career options, including architect (after completion of the Master of Architecture), administrator, educator, journalist, landscape architect, policy maker, researcher or urban designer.

Applicants must have completed an Australian Year 12 qualification, Australian Qualifications Framework Diploma, or equivalent Australian or overseas qualification at the required level. UTS: Design, Architecture and Building may consider applications based on the results of the Special Tertiary Admissions Test (STAT) if students lack academic qualifications but have extensive professional experience. The STAT is conducted through the Universities Admissions Centre. Students must fulfil the following English language proficiency of academic IELTS test score of 6.5 overall (with a writing score of 6.0) or TOEFL Test Paper Based score of 575 overall with TWE of 4.5 or TOEFL Test Internet Based score of 90 overall with essay writing of 21 or DEEP Program (Completion of the Insearch Direct Entry English Program at C level) or PTE score of 64.
