This double degree aims to provide students with the opportunity to become qualified engineers with a strong background in a complementary branch of applied science. There is a growing demand in high-technology industries and research centres for engineers with multidisciplinary skills in technology, management, and relevant sciences. While providing a major area of study in any one of the Civil, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Instrumentation Control and Automation, Computer Systems, Electronics and Communications, or Electrical Power Engineering areas, this double degree program broadens the overall knowledge of students in areas which are complementary to their technical skills. The program offers students a high level of flexibility as students are able to choose from a number of engineering and science specialist areas to select a combination that best suits their personal career aspirations. Students whose performance over the five years of the course is of a high standard may be awarded the Bachelor of Engineering with Honours degree. It focuses on mechatronics.

Students should have satisfactory performance in WACE Mathematics 3C/3D or Mathematics Specialist 3C/3D, or equivalent. WACE Physics 3A/3B, or equivalent is desirable. Students who have completed a TAFE Diploma or its equivalent in an allied engineering field may be admitted to this course with advanced standing. Students who have not passed WACE Physics 3A/3B, or equivalent, will be required to complete bridging units during the first year of their studies. Students who have not completed Mathematics: Specialist 3C/3D is strongly encouraged to attend the 5-day Mathematics Bridging Programme offered in the week before the start of each semester. They should satisfy IELTS overall band score of 6.0 (no individual band less than 6), TOEFL minimum score of 550 including TWE score of 5 (or a Computer based TOEFL score of 213 with an essay rating of 5 or better), TOEFL iBT score of 80 with no score below 20, GCE O Levels grade C or better, WAUFP 50 percent plus pass in ELACS, TEE pass in English or English Literature, International Baccalaureate Diploma minimum Grade 3 at higher level for an English subject and other acceptable qualifications can be obtained from ECU International.
