Naval architecture is concerned with the design, construction and operation of all types of ships and marine vehicles, including commercial, recreational and military vessels. This degree is accredited by Engineers Australia and the Royal Institution of Naval Architects. Students might design high-speed ferries, for example, in which Australia leads the world. might be involved in vessel survey by a Government department (state or federal) or a ship classification society. They might supervise vessel construction or trials, conduct research, or appear as an expert witness.

Students will be considered for admission to this program at UNSW on the basis of their performance in any of the following: Australian and New Zealand senior secondary studies, university or other post-secondary qualifications, equivalent overseas qualifications, an alternative entry qualification. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each of the sub-tests of speaking, listening, reading and writing; TOEFL - Internet-based Test (iBT) overall score of 90 with a minimum score of 24 in writing; TOEFL - Paper-based Test (PBT) overall score of 577 with a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE); successful completion of the UNSW Institute of Languages University English Entry Course with a grade of C+ (grade point 7.0) and a minimum score of 20 in the writing component; overall score of 68 in Pearson Test of English academic version and successful completion of the ANU College Access Program with a minimum of 70 per cent overall.
