This course is designed to enable registered nurses to further their knowledge of the theoretical basis of nursing and to extend their clinical skills and competencies in selected areas of nursing practice. The program provides opportunities for students to examine the multifaceted role of the registered nurse, together with consideration of factors shaping present and future nursing practice. As all participants are registered nurses with a range of experience and varying learning needs, the focus in the program is on self-directed learning. This course does not alter the registration status nor does it lead to registration as a professional nurse in Australia.

Student are required to hold a certificate or diploma of nursing having undertaken at least a three year undergraduate course or equivalent to gain registration as a professional nurse; be currently registered as a Division I or Division III nurse in Australia or an overseas qualified nurse registered with the relevant authority in their home country (equivalent or comparable to Division I or Division III in Australia; evidence of at least one year post-registration experience is desirable but not mandatory; and international students need to meet University of Ballarat English Language proficiency requirements. They must also have overall band score of 6.0, with no individual sub-score less than 5.5 in IELTS and a TOFEL score of 550, including the Test of Written English (TWE) or A score of 213 in the computer based test or a minimum score of 79 in the internet based test (with scores not less than 20 in writing and speaking and 18 in reading and listening).
