This program provides an opportunity for students to study a particular area in depth and gain experience in project management. Students obtain training in research techniques and principles, develop advanced analysis and problem solving skills and develop skills to effectively communicate scientific information in written and oral formats. As well as providing advanced training for work in industry and government, this course is also essential preparation in research training for research work at the master’s and doctoral levels. The course meets the needs of graduates who require research training and knowledge, as well as scholarly expertise in specific disciplines, or who require preparation for further postgraduate study; or for careers as research officers, analysts, and other positions requiring highly developed conceptual and analytical skills. The course provides a vital link to postgraduate degrees from Bachelor degree courses in the scientific areas, including Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science, Bachelor of Biomedical Science, Bachelor of Environmental Science or Environmental Management, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Pharmacy and other similar degrees. Career opportunities exist in areas such as scientist, environmental scientist, environmental manager, exercise and sport scientist, biomedical scientist, teacher and technical or laboratory manager.

Applicants must have completed recognised upper secondary or equivalent Year 12 studies to the required standard. They should also demonstrate their English language proficiency with an overall minimum TOEFL score of 550 and score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English (TWE), valid for two years, from the date of the test to the date of commencement at CDU; or with a minimum CBT score of 213 and a minimum score of 4.5 in the Essay Rating; or with a minimum IBT score of 79 and a minimum score of 20 in writing; or an overall IELTS of 6.0, writing band 6.0, no band less than 5.5.
