This program includes a core generalist training in psychology, and builds on this by adding an interest stream in sport science. The degree will develop an understanding of developmental psychology, personality, cognition and neuroscience, social psychology and psychological assessment. Students will complete a variety of research projects, specialist units on research design, and project units related to sport science. Study areas in the psychology and sport science professional major include psychological testing and assessment, psychology, abnormal psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, personality psychology, social psychology, sport psychology, research methods, sociology and statistics. Psychology graduates are highly sought after in a range of human services positions. These might include employment in community and mental health, human resource management, policy development, research, welfare, journalism, marketing and advertising. These courses also provide the first step to becoming a professional psychologist. After completing a degree with a major in psychology, they may undertake a fourth year in psychology and then further study in specialist areas of professional psychology such as counselling, health, clinical, organisational, forensic or sport psychology.

Students should have either one of the following: Swinburne college English for Academic Purposes advanced level certificate at the pathways level (EAP 5: pathways - 60 per cent); obtaining a minimum IELTS overall band of 5.5 (academic module) with no individual band below 5.0; a TOEFL (paper-based) minimum score of 527 (with a test of written English (TWE) score of 4.5); a TOEFL (computer-based) minimum score of 196 (with written writing score of 4.5); a TOEFL (internet-based) minimum score of 71 with no band less than 18.
