In their first year students will be introduced to the foundations of education, learn how to incorporate technology into teaching and learning and commence studies in how to teach the core secondary personal development, health, and physical education (PDHPE) curriculum. They will also begin study of sports science and health science; and begin their physical education studies with an examination of court and striking games, and motor skill development. In their second year they will study the psychology of learning and teaching; the social contexts of education, the theory and practice of classroom and behaviour management and continue their study of health and sports science, and continue their physical education studies by learning about performance activities and invasion games. They will also engage in their first 20-day supervised professional experience placement in a secondary school. In their third year they will study special education, or how to work with children who have additional learning needs, and have the opportunity to employ the strategies they learn in a 20-day supervised professional experience placement. They will also study Aboriginal education, policy and issues; and expand their repertoire by furthering your knowledge of PDHPE curriculum and pedagogy. They will also continue studies in health and sports science, and learn strategies for engaging people in lifetime physical activity. In their final year they will study how to teach the discipline-specific literacies of their subject area, and engage in the study of how to teach senior PDHPE curriculum. They will complete their understanding of physical education by studying physical activity behaviour, sports coaching, and the sociology of sport and physical activity. Their year will conclude with a 50-day internship where they will be responsible for a series of PDHPE classes in a secondary high school. For students undertaking an Honours program, the 20 units at 2000 level are replaced by honours thesis in the 4th year of the program.

Students should have a satisfactory audition/ interview is a requirement of admission together with an acceptable level of attainment in year 12 or equivalent. Students must satisfy any one of the following English proficiency requirements whose first language is not English: IELTS 6.0 no subtest less than 6.0, ELICOS Exam (Entry Level Pass (EP) in EAP exam), TOEFL paper based test result of 525 minimum score of 4 in TWE or internet result of 80 and no subtest less than 20, PTE (Academic) score of 57 with no subtest score less than 50, CULT score of 70.
