This dual program is designed to provide students with a professional career in music and a depth of understanding in one or more fields of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences. Students will learn how to interpret theatre through time and space, but they will also be challenged to think about what constitutes performance, not only on the stage, but on the page and in everyday life. They will develop an understanding of the theatrical and literary aspects of drama, from ancient Greek classics to Medieval theatre to the most recent Australian and European plays. They do not have to audition but there are practical performance options at advanced level. They can also combine with the music majors composition, music performance and musicology.

Students must have completed Year 12 or equivalent English and Music or AMEB Grade 7 or higher in a practical examination and AMEB Grade 5 or higher in Theory or Musicianship, or equivalent. They should also satisfy the English language requirements: IELTS (overall score of 6.5; writing score of 6); TOEFL - (Computer based score of 237; Essay writing score of 4.5); TOEFL - (Paper based score of 570; TWE (Test of written English) score of 5); TOEFL - (Internet Based (IBT) overall score of 90; writing score of 21).

This University was established by an Act of State Parliament on December 10, 1909 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Queensland’s separation from the colony of New South Wales. Its foundation four months later made it the first university in the State and the fifth in the nation. This St Lucia campus is considered by many to be Australia's most attractive. Located seven kilometres from the city's heart on a magnificent 114-hectare site in a bend of the Brisbane River, the campus has expansive landscaped grounds and many playing fields. Its hub is a semi-circle of cloistered buildings enclosing the Great Court, which is on the Queensland Heritage Register as well as the Register of the National Trust of Queensland. The Alumni Teaching Garden in College Road near the river is primarily a teaching and research facility but also includes a quiet area of lush rainforest with public walkways. The adjacent Una Prentice Memorial Garden, bounded by Roberston Walk and Ferry Walk, surrounds two of the three lakes on campus.

This college provide students with individual study bedrooms containing a single bed, desk, chair and storage space for clothing and other belongings. Some College rooms have attached bathrooms (ensuites), but the more usual arrangement is to share the bathroom with other students. Colleges provide educational amenities such as group study rooms, computer labs, printers and photocopiers and tutorials that are in addition to the standard university classes; and recreational facilities such as common rooms, landscaped gardens, gymnasiums, practice courts and music rooms. There are 10 Residential Colleges based on the grounds of the St Lucia campus within easy walking distance of all teaching and research facilities, but they are not owned or managed by the University.
