This dual degree program provides students with a wide range of majors across science and arts. Students can structure their program within each degree component to include majors in their area of interest and a range of electives. Genetics, more than any other discipline, is transforming modern biology. Genetics is the study of inheritance: the structure and expression of genes, the genetic basis of traits, and the interaction between genes and the environment at the population and species level. The growing availability of completely sequenced genomes, computational analysis and molecular analytic tools is allowing unprecedented discoveries in areas as diverse as human medicine, agriculture, conservation biology and biotechnology. The analysis of vast collections of genomic data has spawned the new discipline of bioinformatics that has required the development of new analytical and programming tools. Students must have completed Queensland Year 12 or equivalent English, mathematics B plus one of chemistry or physics. They should also satisfy the English language requirements: IELTS (overall score of 6.5; writing score of 6); TOEFL - (Computer based score of 237; Essay writing score of 4.5); TOEFL - (Paper based score of 570; TWE (Test of written English) score of 5); TOEFL - (Internet Based (IBT) overall score of 90; writing score of 21).
