This course is offered in association with Deakin University as an alternative pathway to undergraduate studies. The Diploma consists of Deakin's first year degree units. The Diploma of Engineering is a broad course, equipping students with the skills and knowledge required for a full spectrum of opportunities in the engineering field. Students will undertake common units in their diploma study and then choose to specialise in civil, electronics, mechatronics and robotics, or mechanical engineering when they enter second year at Deakin University. Instruction for all units is classroom based and four hours of class contact per week are allocated to each unit. Assessment for all units is ongoing and continuous, consisting of tests, assignments and case study analysis. Most units have a final three hour examination.

Entry to diploma courses requires the successful completion of Year 12 or equivalent. Additionally this course requires a pre requisite subject of mathematics (Year 12 or equivalent). Students must be able to demonstrate English language proficiency before being admitted to a course. This can be done by obtaining one of the following results: DUELI: EAP 2 (EAP 3 for Diploma of Media and Communication), English 1119: C6, GCE 'O' Level: C6, HKCEE English Syllabus B: D, IELTS: 5.5 (with no band score below 5.0), SPM English: C4, TOEFL Computer Based: 195, TOEFL Paper Based: 525, TOEFL iBT: 69-70, Year 12 English (Australia): pass and Year 12 English (Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Nepal): Div 2. Country specific academic entry requirements are as follows: Indian students should have completed the All India Senior School Certificate or State Board with average mark of 50 per cent; Bangladeshi students require completion of Higher School Certificate with a grade average of 50 per cent; Pakistani students require completion of Higher School Certificate with a grade average of 55 per cent; Chinese students require successful completion of Senior Middle 3 with a ‘B’ average in four subjects; Malaysian students require two passes at minimum 'E' grade in the STPM plus four 'B' grades in academic subjects in Senior Middle 3 and should have passed Ontario Grade 13 with minimum of 57 per cent; Singapore students must have two passes in the GCE 'A' Levels; Vietnam students should have completed Year 12 with an average of 6.0; South African students should have completed Year 12; Kenyan students require successful completion of KCSE with a C grade average or two passes in the GCE ‘A’ levels or three passes at ‘AS’ level; other African students must have two passes in the GCE 'A' Levels.
