The PhD will display the capacity of the student to carry out independent research at the appropriate level. Students must have completed a Masters degree from a recognised university; or completed a Bachelor of Laws degree from this or another recognised university with an average of at least 75 per cent or an equivalent grade elsewhere. They can have other qualifications which, in the opinion of the Academic Senate, acting on the advice of the Dean, are equivalent to or are a satisfactory substitute for either of the qualifications prescribed above. In addition to the above requirements, candidates for the PhD degree must satisfy the Dean that they have the academic, research and writing abilities to produce a major thesis that represents a substantial contribution to the exposition, knowledge or understanding of the field of study concerned. They must have proficiency in English with IELTS score 7.0 (no sub score less than 6.5) TOEFL score 627 (TWE 5); (CBT 263, essay rating 5.0) for direct entry.
