Ringkasan program
This program allows students to combine coursework with extensive independent research in philosophy. The thesis should demonstrate a critical application of specialist knowledge and make an independent contribution to existing scholarship in the area of research. Candidates may advance to the Doctor of Philosophy degree after successful completion of the masters or may apply to convert to the PhD at an earlier stage. Students who complete the masters will: acquire the additional knowledge required to undertake specialised study in a branch of philosophy of their choice; acquire research skills and an understanding of the methods required for advanced research in philosophy; complete a minor thesis, based on original research and revealing an awareness of current theoretical directions in their chosen field.

Applicants should have obtained four year BA (Honours) degree with a research component or equivalent in the appropriate area of study or closely related area. The grade for the honours thesis component must be at least equivalent to an H2A (75 per cent) at the University of Melbourne and the overall honours result must be at least equivalent to an H2B (70 per cent). International applicants must fulfill any one of the following English language requirements: IELTS (academic English only) score of 7.0 (written 7.0 with no band less than 6.0); or TOEFL (paper-based test) score of 600 plus TWE 5.0, TOEFL (computer-based test) score of 250 plus 5.0 essay rating and TOEFL (internet-based test) score of 94 (writing 27, speaking 18, reading and listening 13 each); or Pearson Test of English (academic) score of 65 and written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50.
