This course is designed to provide registered nurses with the specialist skills and knowledge required for advanced practice. Students undertake one of four majors and a sub-major chosen from a wide range of specialty areas. Students choose one of the following four majors: Advanced Nursing Practice, Nurse Practitioner (domestic students only), Education, Management. Students can customize their program to meet personal learning needs or workplace requirements. Majors and sub-majors can be combined in a variety of ways to achieve either generalist or highly specialized skills in addition to leadership expertise. This course aims to: develop students' careers as advanced clinicians, managers, educators or nurse practitioners; extend and enhance existing skills; build confidence and leadership skills and provide academic experience and qualification. Career options include advanced practice (e.g. clinical nurse specialist or consultant), nursing management, nursing education or nurse practitioner positions in both clinical and community health settings.

Applicants must have completed a UTS recognized bachelor's degree, or an equivalent or higher qualification, or submitted other evidence of general and professional qualifications that demonstrates potential to pursue graduate studies. They must hold current registration as a nurse in Australia. Registered nurses who do not have an undergraduate diploma or degree but do have recent relevant work experience and can demonstrate the capacity to undertake tertiary study may also be considered eligible. They must also hold a current Authority to Practise, or be a registered nurse in their own country or place of residence and hold a current Authority to Practice and concurrent employment in, or access to, the area of study and one year of post-registration clinical experience. They must also have academic IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a writing score of 6.0; or TOEFL paper based overall score of 575with 4.5in TWE, internet based overall score of 90 with a writing score of 21; or DEEP: C; or PTE: 64.
