This course is designed for professionals interested in expanding their theoretical and practical knowledge in a range of scientific fields such as biotechnology, environmental, climate change and sustainable resource management, occupational safety, health and hygiene. It allows students to undertake flexible coursework study in areas of scientific interest as well as providing appropriate research skills training. The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) component provides training and education with the objective of producing graduates with the capacity to conduct research independently at a high level of originality and quality. A PhD candidate should uncover new knowledge either by the discovery of new facts, the formulation of theories or the innovative re-interpretation of known data and established ideas.

Students must have completed any one of the following: a masters (honours) degree; a bachelor’s degree with honours class 1; bachelor’s degree with honours class 2 division 1 or qualifications from a university or other tertiary institution deemed by the College Research and Higher Degrees Committee to be equivalent to the requirements set out above. They must also satisfy the following English language requirements: IELTS overall score of 6.5 with a minimum score of 6.0 in each subtest; TOEFL score of 575 (minimum 4.5 in TWE); TOEFL computer based test score of 232 (minimum 4.5 in Essay Rating); TOEFL Internet based test score of 89; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English - grade of B or above; Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English - grade of B or above.
