Ringkasan program
This programme provides students with a rigorous and structured training in probability and statistics with real-world examples and application. It is designed to strike a balance between statistical theory and practical application. Students will gain insights into real life applications based on a firm statistical foundation, which makes learning the subject more enjoyable and produces a better understanding of the methods. Upon completion of the programme, students will be able to analyse and interpret data for intelligent decision making in different areas, such as finance, economics, risk management, actuarial science, marketing research, opinion survey and business operations, etc. Applied Statistics is a branch of applied statistics working mostly on data collected for good decision making in the face of uncertainty. It is used in many disciplines such as financial analysis, econometrics, auditing, production and operations including services improvement, and marketing research. It provides knowledge and various useful concepts so as to be able to correctly interpret the results (for example when they do apply and do not apply) in statistical analysis of a variety of business applications. It covers a wide range of useful statistical techniques pertaining to business problems, such as hypothesis testing, regression analysis, time series analysis, classification techniques, pattern recognition, prediction and data mining. Students who take this programme will be equipped with quantitative skills (including the use of statistical software) and knowledge required for data analysis and decision making in the business environment.
