Ringkasan program

This programme provides students with an opportunity to investigate and analyse specific examples of law, social theories, aspects of social action, social processes and institutions. It will enable them to understand these in the context of own society and to compare different types of social life and societies. It will give them an opportunity to examine theories about the nature of social existence and change and to study these in relation to the state and the legal framework. It is recommended if they want an opportunity to develop skills in the close reading of key texts that have shaped the discipline of sociology; an introduction to the key methods that sociologists use to research all aspects of social life; want a wide range of units which allow them to explore how and why societies have developed in the ways that they have, important questions about the nature of sociological research, as well as ideas about social action and social development and change; want an opportunity to develop an understanding of the principal features of law and to understand the operation of the law in a wide social context. Although most students who pursue a joint degree in sociology and law pursue an academic career in law and/or sociology, training in this area may be useful for careers apart from this - for example, studying race and equality as the foundation for a career in public service, or studying criminology for a career in related areas. Some sociologists work in prison system, helping to design more effective incarceration and rehabilitation methods while others are counselors, educators or researchers. Other careers in sociology include working in social services.

Modul program

The modules in year 1 include 21 Principles of Sociology, 158 Reading Social Sciences (half unit), 04a Statistics 1 (half unit), 161 Common Law Reasoning and Institutions, 107 Introduction to Business and Management, 25 Principles of Accounting; 79 Elements of Social and Applied Psychology, 401 Company Law, 145 Social Research Methods (21), 127 Organisation Theory (02 or 21 or 79); year 3: 144 Historical Sociology (21), 163 Sociological Theory and Analysis (21), 303 Criminology, 401 Jurisprudence and Legal Theory.

Persyaratan masuk bagi mahasiswa internasional

Students to be consider for admission to this programme, must have obtained any one of the following qualification: 2 'A' levels plus 3 'O' levels (with English and Maths) or equivalent and 17 years of age as of 1 September 2012; or Poly Diploma plus 3 'O' levels (with English and Maths) and 17 years of age as of 1 September 2012; or any other recognised qualifications as accepted by the University. For Access Route, they should have obtained 4 'O' Levels (with English and Maths) or equivalent and some work experience. They should have score of 580 (or 237 on the computer base) in TOEFL plus TWE with a score of 4.5 (or a writing rating of 4.5). Alternatively an internet based TOEFL (iBt) score of 92, at least 22 in both reading and writing skills sub-tests and at least 20 in both speaking and listening skills sub-tests. They should have an overall score of at least 6 with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four sub-tests of IELTS.
