Social network analysis is the study of the patterns of social relations. Network analysis examines how the structure of social relations allocates resources, constrains behavior, and channels social change. In this course school will share with students how to use social network analysis to analyse data collected from social mediating technologies such as Facebook, Twitter, Wiki and e-mail for sales and marketing, engaging customers, and promotion initiatives. The course objectives: basic understanding in social media and social networks; understanding social network analysis: measuring, mapping and modelling collections of connections; obtain skills in visualising and analysing email; gain understanding beyond just counting fans and likes; understanding connections of creativity and collaboration. Upon successful completion of this course, an attendee will be able to: discuss a variety of measures and properties of networks; identify various types of social networks; describe how position within and structure of networks matter; use software tools to analyze social network data, and; apply social network analysis to areas such as sales and marketing, engaging customers, and products promotion. Upon successful completion of the course participant will receive a Certification of Completion from SMU-SIS Professional Programme Office.

The Singapore Management University has the following hostel facilities: SMU Residences at Prinsep and Accommodation at Havelock. The SMU Residences at Prinsep Street is open to fresh undergraduates uprooted from their home towns, to get used to life in SMU and in Singapore. The residence is in close proximity to Little India, Arab Street, Bugis Junction and the National Library. The hostel is surrounded by museums, theatres, educational institutions, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and a range of retail outlets. The residence consists of three blocks of four-storey apartments in a tropical setting with landscaping and abundant foliage. There are a total of 48 individual apartments. Each has a lounge cum dinning area, equipped with refrigerator and microwave oven, two toilets cum shower and four bedrooms with multi-split air conditioning (two single and two twin sharing bed) which can accommodate up to six residents. Rooms are furnished with a loft bed/study table, wardrobe, towel rail study chairs, waste bins and mattress. Rooms are also equipped with power points, LAN points and circular PL lamps. SMU has recently leased 220 beds of student hostels at Havelock Road from EM Services Pte Ltd (a private hostel operator) and it is open to senior undergraduate students (full-time SMU students second year and above), exchange students and full time post graduate students who plans to study full time at SMU for the forthcoming semester. There are 56 apartments which consist of a common lounge on the 15th floor. Each apartment has a living room (approx.16.68sqm) with a dining table; a kitchen (approx. 3.6sqm) equipped with refrigerator, microwave oven, kettle, electrical hot plate for simple cooking; a toilet cum shower and two bedrooms (approx. 12.95sqm) with air conditioning, two single beds, mattresses, study tables/chairs and wardrobe. The apartment is fully equipped with power points and wireless internet connection.
