Accounting and finance enables students to develop the skills and expert judgment for financial measurement and presentation together with an understanding of the legal framework regulating operational practice; accounting is concerned with the measurement and disclosure of financial information; accountants have a vital role in ensuring the accuracy of financial information given to private individuals, managers, investors, regulators, decision makers and the public; year 1 of the economics degree lays the grounding for studies, equipping students with the fundamental techniques needed; introduces the hottest up-to-date topics in the field; in years 2 and 3 students apply the skills learned to measuring the performance of economic systems large and small; students also start to be introduced to the intricacies of probability and prediction, and the problems of uncertainty.
