Ringkasan program
The course is designed both for students who want to enhance their understanding of the social, cultural, political and economic history and present condition of Africa and for those who want to go on to further primary research; it provides intensive research and language training for those who wish to go on to prepare a doctoral dissertation, but it is also a free-standing postgraduate degree course in its own right.
Modul program
Africa in the long duree: methodologies; people, politics and power in pre-colonial Africa; colonialism: from Marx to Foucault and beyond; God, gods, missionaries and their African translators; from colonialism to postcolonialism; poverty and wealth in contemporary Africa; aid, development, power and knowledge; conflict in postcolonial Africa: cold war, diamonds and genocide; population, environment and climate change; the African city and its hinterlands; South Africa after apartheid; sex, gender, medicine and power: HIV/AIDS.
