This programme aims to provide students with a thorough grounding in important areas of statistics and to prepare them to apply this knowledge to real world problems; the programme covers every stage of the process of providing statistical advice to researchers; as well as helping students design experiments and analyse data, the programme also teaches them about the practical aspects of consultation and report presentation; the programme does not assume any expert statistical background; statistical theories are motivated and illustrated by using data or real world examples; the main focus is on the theory and techniques which are useful for a practising applied statistician in industry or research.
