Students on the common and civil law course study the principles relating to the law of Northern Ireland which is similar to that of other English-speaking countries and also European Community law; the philosophical and sociological aspects of law can also be studied; students spend a year at a Spanish University: Alcala de Henares, Salamanca or Zaragoza; there is sufficient flexibility in the course to allow students to take all the core courses of a British law degree while studying several Spanish courses as well; emphasis is on Spanish language and Spanish society, though there will be the opportunity to study Spanish literature as well.

Compulsory modules: Introduction to common and civil law; contract; introduction to property law; constitutional law and history; civil law; Spanish language, textual and contextual studies. (Students wishing to apply for entry to the vocational course for professional training as a barrister or solicitor, must cover the 6 core legal subjects: constitutional law; criminal law; tort; contract; land law; equity); plus 7 options, at least 5 of which must be law modules from a range of options including: legal history; law and ethics; law and literature; land law; criminal law; torts; planning law; insurance law; domestic and export sales law; family law; children and the law; justice; computers and law; Roman law; foundations of European Union law; welfare law; parliamentary institutions; civil liberties; introduction to civil law; workshop on negotiation; evidence; equity; company law; law of public companies; conveyancing; banking and business finance law; insolvency law; intellectual property law; labour law; revenue law: practice and procedure; advanced criminal law; consumer protection; criminal process 1: criminal investigation; criminal process 2: proof; modern Irish legal history; dispute resolution; private international law; clinical law; criminology; emergency law; gender and the law; medical law and ethics; punishment and responsibility; administrative law; comparative constitutional law; environmental law; European commercial law; European social integration; public international law; legal protection of cultural property in Europe; European labour law; competition trade law; international trade law; advocacy; education law; comparative law.
