The course combines the history and theory of drama and performance with the historical and critical study of film and other screen media; it provides a comprehensive understanding of critical approaches to theatre and film, with an emphasis on the aesthetic and cultural analysis of stage and screen fiction, the creation of new expressive forms, and their role in shaping social, cultural and psychological life; students develop an informed understanding of the place of theatre and film in contemporary society and have the opportunity to develop their own forms of creative, communicative and expressive practice.

Modul program

Year 1: Notions of theatre; introduction to film studies; the origins of theatre; play and performance; media production; narrative and representation in film and media. Year 2: Place, space and performance; film and creativity; performance project; world theatre in the 20th and 21st centuries; media production; film genre. Year 3: Contemporary Hollywood cinema; British drama 1945 to present; world cinema; independent research project. Year 4: Cinema and modernity; dissertation or project; creative entrepreneurship; screen adaptation; contemporary performance; film and family; arts management; video production; crime fiction; community theatre; cinema and the body; psychology and film; photography and visual culture; arts journalism; screen writing; play writing.
