Horology is the study and production of timekeeping devices, both mechanical and electronic; the course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills appropriate for watch and clock making, the servicing of mechanical and electronic watches, clocks and chronometers, and the restoration of antique clocks and watches; both levels include broader studies in horological history and design, information technology, metallurgy and business l 1: Covers the theory of mechanical timekeeping, workshop practice, and measured drawing; prepares candidates for the BHI certificate in clock and watch servicing (technician grade) and the certificate in the repair, restoration and conservation for clocks/watches (final grade part 1). Level 2: enables students to study these subjects in greater depth; complex automatic watches, chronographs and calendars are introduced; students undertake a major practical project and may specialise in antique or modern clocks or watches; prepares candidates for the first year examinations of the certificate in the repair, restoration and conservation for clocks/watches (final grade part 2).
