The course is concerned with designing objects which influence our interior spaces; the research, design and development of areas such as lighting, architectural fittings, furniture, ceramic-ware, architectural glass and modular internal systems are studied during the course; students are encouraged to learn and solve problems through experimentation and practical application; throughout the programme there is the opportunity to study overseas and engage with regular study trips, which provide students with the ability to evaluate and assess the design field in greater depth; learning is primarily project-based and supported by lectures, seminars and specialist workshops; these ensure that students learn to appreciate and understand all aspects of the design process and are aware of the commercial, cultural and technological context within which business operates; this aspect of learning is supported by direct engagement with business which often enables students to undertake live projects.
