International relations students study state-of-the art of theorising international relations, via consideration of the major schools of theory and the work of major authors; together with topics such as international security; war and the international system; middle eastern politics; Soviet and post-Soviet foreign policy; Japan and the world; human security; modern day Latin America; modernity and Islam and international peace; language and linguisticsstudents study how human language and speech may have evolved, the complex functions and structures of language in its role as a bridge between sound and meaning, the ways in which we acquire languages as children and adults, the ways in which languages vary, and the mechanisms by which they change over time.
