International Relations aims to give students an appreciation of the historical evolution of the international system, as well as engaging with key dilemmas and contestations dominating international politics today; students are taught to use the main concepts, approaches and theories in the study of international relations and to analyse, interpret and evaluate world political events and issues; Russian trains students to a high level of proficiency in reading, speaking and writing Russian, which enables them to communicate readily on a personal and professional basis; it also gives students an opportunity to learn about a centuries-old culture which has had an enormous influence on our own view of the world, as well as the culture of present-day Russia under Medvedev and Putin; students experience some of the great works of literature and art such as Crime and Punishment and Eugene Onegin, and some of the lesser-known exciting novels, pictures and poems that make up so much of Russian cultural life.
