Ringkasan program
This course offers an opportunity for study of the history, politics and society of the region; the course aims to provide a broad, comparative approach to the many and varied histories of Latin America; national, indigenous, colonial, post-colonial and modern; students are encouraged to place existing knowledge of 1 or more countries into a much wider perspective; the focus is on Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil.
Modul program
Modules include: Critical questions in Latin American history; research skills in modern languages; research methods; advanced Spanish language for historians of Latin America; advanced Portuguese language for historians of Latin America; themes in the history of colonialism; constructing identities; culture and conflict (theoretical approaches); themes in cultural and intellectual history; ideology, poverty, famines; crossing boundaries (identity and culture in the early midern Atlantic world; the end of the Spanish empire, 1770 - 1898; contemporary history of Latin America; British imperialism in Latin America; theories of visual culture (text and image); reception (history, time and the archive); supervised individual study options.
