The course trains research students in a wide range of analytic techniques, pure, stochastic, computational and applied, leading to a thesis in one aspect of mathematical analysis; year 1 is devoted mainly to taught courses and research mini-projects, while the remaining 3 years are focused on research leading towards a dissertation; in addition to the course fee (University Composition fee) students may have to pay a college fee.

Modul program

Year 1: 3 core lecture courses covering: analysis of partial differential equations; stochastic analysis; computational analysis; individually designed package of 2 or 3 additional courses, typically take Part III of the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos, and chosen to fill in gaps and expand knowledge; 2 research mini-projects, typically 1 in pure or stochastic analysis, the other in computational or applied analysis; each project is supervised and mentored, and often 1 of these mini-projects leads towards the PhD dissertation; years 2-4: main focus is the doctoral dissertation; each student has a primary and a second supervisor, either from within the mathematics faculty or form other science or engineering departments; students whose dissertation subject is oriented towards mathematical modelling may have the opportunity of secondment for part of the time to other university departments or to industry, if this is beneficial to their research; in addition, there is a range of seminar and short course activities open to students.
