This course builds on the experience developed with undergraduate BEng Mechanical Engineering; it provides a progression route for graduates from the programme, as well as other relevant programmes in mechanical and manufacturing engineering; the course is designed for graduates wishing to reach senior positions as engineers and technical managers; it is designed with particular emphasis on advanced manufacturing technologies and the application of advanced materials; it also covers quality engineering and management skills; this program aims to further develop suitably qualified individuals in the area of mechanical engineering; it is designed to develop a range of skills and techniques appropriate for companies working in the field of mechanical engineering; this allows graduates to make an immediate contribution to a company's capability and operation, and to ultimately progress into senior management positions; the programme of study deepens and broadens knowledge and understanding of mechanical technologies and organisational methods appropriate to the sector; it develops a range of transferable skills and attributes which enable graduates to undertake responsible roles in mechanical engineering; it develops a questioning and critical attitude; it uses both analytical and experimental methods for the solution of problems in the mechanical sector; and develops the ability of self-learning; staff research interests include: advanced manufacturing, materials and design; precision measurement; precision machining; microelectronic devices and reliability; electric machines and drives and control systems; management information and decision support systems within the marine, offshore and logistics sectors.
