Areas of research include: autoimmune disease and endothelial cell biology in relation to renal disease; in vivo and in vitro studies of the B lymphocyte response to antigen; immunology and pathogenesis of inflammatory joint diseases; molecular virology, immunology and pathogenesis of persistent virus infections including herpes viruses and retroviruses; pathogenesis of cutaneous papilloma virus infections; mechanisms of genetic resistance to, and pathogenesis of, mycobacterial and leishmanial infections; molecular genetics of metabolic and x-linked disorders; genetics and neurobiology of demyelinating disease; behavioural neurology and the dementias; molecular neuropathology of neurodegenerative diseases with dementia; cell implantation in striatal disease; genetic endocrinology and nuclear hormone receptors and human disease and molecular basis of human disorders of insulin action and body weight; cellular, molecular and endocrine mechanisms of osteoporosis and bone disease; liver disease; cellular and molecular aspects of vascular disease; inflammatory lung disease, in particular granulocyte biology; a-antitrypsin structure/function and pulmonary vascular remodelling; role of conformational transitions of proteins in disease; role of cytokines in autoimmune and cardiovascular diseases; in addition to the course fee (University Composition fee) students may have to pay a college fee.
