This course provides the opportunity to develop a deep understanding of North African Politics through research-led teaching; students gain extensive knowledge and understanding of the region; specific topics include: the political systems and elections of Egypt, Algeria and Morocco; political violence, and democratization in North Africa; the core focus of the programme is on contemporary North African politics, but a significant amount of time is also dedicated to the historical context.
Modul program
Compulsory modules: debating authoritarianism and democracy in North Africa; Islam and politics in North Africa; research methods in Middle Eastern and Islamic studies; dissertation; 2 options chosen from: studying the contemporary Middle East; Islamic culture and civilization; approaches to Middle East and Islamic studies (states, societies and identities).
