Year 1: Introduction to chemical oceanography; physical oceanography 1; Earth and ocean system; French for marine scientists; key skills and fieldwork; quantiative Earth and ocean science or introduction to mathematical methods; elements of marine ecology.
Year 2: Practical techniques and key skills for oceaongraphy; sedimentary systems and processes; French for marine scientists 2; phytoplankton and primary production; estuaries; options from: marine vertebrates; geochemistry; physical oceanography 2; ecological processes of the marine benthos.
Year 3: The third year is spent in France; topics include: oceanography and meteorology; marine geochemistry; marine ecosystems; palaeoceanography and climatology; coastal processes and modelling; oil geology; benthic processes and modelling; sedimentology of the deep marine environments.
Year 4: Contemporary topics in ocean and Earth science; training in reasearch skills; French for marine scientists 3; advanced research project; options from: applied and marine geophysics; deep sea ecology; microfossils, environments and time; computing for geophysicists; modelling in environmental and Earth system science; climate dynamics; structure and dynamics of marine communities; global ocean monitoring; applied biogeochemistry and pollution; global climate cycles.
