This course explores the creative cross-over between arts practice and arts administration; it is designed to prepare thinking practitioners for portfolio careers in the arts in which they are not only art makers but also their own curators, fund-raisers, administrators and marketing managers; it is aimed at: recent arts graduates who want to set up companies, ensembles, studios or individual art practices; emerging or established artists who realise there are gaps in their artistic or administrative knowledge; artists who wish to develop skills as curators, creative producers or socially-engaged practitioners alongside and through their art practice; the course involves 2 parallel strands: 1 consists of a series of modules in cultural policy; business planning; marketing; and a placement with an arts organisation; the other consists of the development, with the support of a creative mentor, of a professional-standard arts project which is finally presented at a festival organised by the student cohort.
