The course has been designed to teach the practical knowledge and skills necessary to underpin the working life of a solicitor; all of the teaching is carried out by qualified and experienced solicitors, independant financial advisors and other key support staff in legal firms; the course provides a link between the academic undergraduate LLB (Honours) degree and the 2 year period of practical training in a solicitor�s office which most graduates require to complete in order to become a fully qualified solicitor or advocate in Scotland; the course meets the requirements of the Law Society of Scotland (LSS) for accreditation as a Professional Education and Training 1 (PEAT 1) course; this course is designed to encourage the application of law to practical situations and to allow the student to develop skills required to progress to a legal traineeship (PEAT2); the emphasis of this course is on the development of professional skills such as advocacy, negotiation and client counselling skills in a small group environment; students learn to appreciate the ethical and business issues involved in legal practice; students develop advocacy skills through use of the university's moot court and are encouraged to visit the local courts as often as possible; to further support replicating the professional workplace, the materials used throughout the course mimic those encountered in legal practice.
