Psychology tries to explain how the most complex natural structure in the known universe, the human brain works; the analytical study of the complexities of human behaviour in the attempt to understand why we behave the way we do: what part is played by our genes, our family environment, our social and cultural context and so on; students seek evidence-based answers to these questions; from the start of the course students are introduced to the key ideas, theories and research findings that have influenced psychology: social psychology, individual difference theory, biopsychology and so on; students learn methods of psychological research, to enable them to conduct their own investigations into human behaviour; marketing combines the discipline of sound research with the creativity of aural, visual and verbal expression, and with technical expertise in using the most up-to-date modern media; it is crucial to the functioning of modern economic societies, promoting products within the context of a sound understanding of the ethics of truthfulness and faithful representation.
