The main aims of this degree are to promote a creative approach to examining and exploring investment, legal and financial issues; it also aims to allow students to analyse a range of value and investment options and deliver appropriate proposals; the course provides an in-depth understanding of the technical, economic and legal aspects of surveying; the skills of the real estate manager lie in areas of investment appraisal and financial management as well as in understanding the technical aspects of construction and development; although this course shares many technical modules with building surveying, the real focus of this course is on the economics of property, on its value as an investment rather than a functional product; this degree provides a solid foundation for anyone wishing to pursue a career as a chartered surveyor, the specialist content means it's likely to be of particular value to anyone looking to go into property or estate management.

Modul program

Year 1: Core modules: contextual skills for the built environment; an introduction to technology and design; built environment and the economy; introduction to civil law and legislation; surveying practice. Year 2: Core modules: environmental services and construction technology; management practice; planning procedures and practice; valuations 1; law of property; condition surveys and defect analysis; economics of property development. Year 3: Core modules: built environment major project; valuations 2; investment appraisal and property finance; business systems and client accounts; property marketing and management.
