This course is offered on a non-modular basis; this course is taught entirely in Gaelic and encourages active and participatory styles of learning in order to meet students' professional needs and to promote a commitment to continuing professional development; the aim of the course is to support the development of student teachers in attaining the standard for initial teacher education for the secondary sector within the context of a partnership model of teacher education; this is achieved by: anticipating, identifying and responding to the needs of learners at all stages; working with schools and local authorities to develop the partnership so that the roles and responsibilities of each of the partners reflect the particular contributions that each can make and are integrated to provide a coherent and progressive experience for students; enabling student teachers to develop skills in collaboration and co-operative working with colleagues within education and as members of multi disciplinary and inter disciplinary teams; supporting the development of a commitment to continuing professional development beyond the initial phase and of a positive attitude to life long learning; the course is modular and has 120 credits; 10 credits equalling 90 hours of student effort/direct tuition; school experience also accounts for some of these contact hours and, in addition, students are required to undertake independent and supported study tasks.

The course comprises of 3 40-credit modules: Educational studies; pedagogy and curriculum (subject studies); pedagogy and placement learning (school experience).
