The programme gives the skills, knowledge and confidence to work successfully in the expanding area of design for performance; this is a practical course with a strong emphasis on realised performance work.

Modul program

Year 1: Students will acquire a wide-range of creative, technical and research skills and apply them through design and performance projects; students also learn about the broader context of the live arts so that they gain an understanding of both historical and contemporary practice; students will choose a complementary elective module in the first and second years, examples include dance, puppetry, acting, directing, video or theatre in education. Year 2: Specialist module choices such as costume props, live art practice, video in live performance, stage technology, lighting design & technology, and production management cover current developments in such areas; modules such as design and presentation and CAD and computer visualisation focus on applying design to specific theatre and non-theatre spaces through hypothetical design projects; students will also work as part of a creative team on a practical performance project and spend time away working on a placement with a professional company or organisation of their choice. Year 3: In the final year, students work as a designer on a range of public shows and events and are encouraged to develop, produce and manage their own performance design projects; students are introduced to other areas of work such as film, television and AV media in the module film and video in context; students also produce a research paper to support research into contemporary arts.
