This course allows the student to develop a variety of skills and techniques, encouraging the student to explore the creative potential of a variety of media and processes within different areas of art and design; studio workshops include drawing, painting, digital media, mixed media, glass, fibre arts, print, ceramics and sculpture; the emphasis is on visual practice with personal study becoming increasingly prominent in years 2 and 3 as the student progresses to graduation; in this course students explore a broad span of history from ancient times to the 20th Century; students also consider a wide variety of local, national and global contexts, and a great range of historical sources and sites at first-hand; this course takes students on many visits to historical sites, archives offices and museums and galleries, and students learn about people in history at all levels of society.

Modul program

Year 1: Introduction to history: ideas, issues and approaches; visual practices and critical frameworks; early modern Britain: state and society under the Tudors and Stuarts. Year 2: Drawing as enquiry; communities, families and individuals: investigating people and places; materials and processes; the making and breaking of modern Britain. Year 3: Portraying history: painting, photographing and digitising the past; independent study; advanced studio practice 1; advanced studio practice 2; the city in history: global perspectives on urban pasts.
