The 4-1 B.S./M.S. program in Microbiology and Cell Science requires that 12 credits of graduate level courses (5000 level of above) be taken to fulfill requirements of the B.S. degree program. The 12 credits of graduate level courses are courses used to fulfill *6 credits of the 18 credit B.S. core course requirement and a minimum of 6 credits of the 9 credit B.S. elective course requirement. The 12 credits of 5000-level or higher required and elective courses may also be applied to satisfy the M.S. degree requirements. The B.S./M.S. Combined Degree Program in Microbiology and Cell Science is expected to provide highly motivated and capable students with an opportunity to obtain the training and perspective that will give them a competitive advantage as applicants for advanced research degrees in molecular biological sciences.

Minimum requirements include a bachelor's degree or Master's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution or a comparable degree from an international institution, a minimum grade average of B for all upper-division undergraduate work and scores that are acceptable for the program to which students are applying. They must also have acceptable scores on the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT). Students should contact the academic unit for specific program criteria, which will require them to submit such items as transcripts, recommendation letters, and more. International applicants should submit the English proficiency test scores (i.e.) TOEFL or IELTS.

The Department of Microbiology and Cell Science is committed to excellence in education, research and service to the community. B.S. degrees are offered through both the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Sciences and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are offered through the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. The building is housed in Building 981 on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Fl. This 66,000 square foot building was constructed in 1994 and is thoroughly equipped with offices, classroom laboratories and with the instruments and resources necessary for research in modern biochemistry and molecular biology.

Accommodations are provided in traditional residence hall, suite-style, and apartment-style residential communities. The halls in the East Campus Residence Area are primarily of a 1950s vintage and are some of the most requested by incoming freshman. Very near all the halls in this area are an outdoor swimming pool, a series of tennis courts, and a large grassy area dubbed "Broward Beach" where students and residents meet to enjoy the sun. Gator Dining Service locations within easy walking distance to all East Campus Residence Halls are: Fresh Food Company, Beaty Market, Little Hall Shop, and Reitz Union Food Court. The halls in the West Campus Residence Area represent the widest array of campus housing facilities from traditional residence halls, circa 1950, to the newest apartment-style residences built in the 1990s through 2002. The West Campus Residence Area offers a lot of special interest housing including the International House at Weaver Hall and the Honors Residential College at Hume Hall. Gator Dining Service locations within easy walking distance to all West Campus Residence Halls, except Lakeside, are: Gator Corner Dining Center, Graham Oasis, and Reitz Union Food Court. The Department of Housing and Residence Education offers 5 different "Village Communities" for married couples, with or without children, single parent families and single graduate students. Accommodations range from one-bedroom apartments to efficiencies and townhouses.
