This College is an accredited, polytechnic, residential college which is located on 750 acre in New York's Schoharie County-a picturesque and historic area approximately 160 miles northwest of New York City and midway between Albany and Oneonta. It was chartered by an act of the state legislature in 1911 and opened its doors as the Schoharie State School of Agriculture in 1916. It is one of the oldest institutions of its kind in New York State. The mission is to provide superior educational experiences supported by technology.

The college has ten residence halls designed to accommodate between 150 and 231 students each. They house only full-time students. All student rooms are wired for cable television and Internet access, as well as voice mail. Based upon cost and availability, rooms may be singles, doubles or triples. The residence halls are corridor-style. Nine are co-ed and one is single gender by wing. It consists of one male and one female hall. Each wing has one or two common, single gender bathrooms. The facilities offered in these residence halls are as follows: each double room is furnished with two closets, two beds, two dressers, two desks, one floor lamp or overhead light, one mirror, and a telephone with on-campus service. The cooking devices present in residence halls such as hot air popcorn poppers, coffee makers, hot pots that turn off automatically and similar heat-controlled devices. Computers are also available at the campus, students who are willing to bring can also bring their own.
