This college was founded in 1982, Northeastern University's College of Computer and Information Science was the first college in America devoted exclusively to computer science. This college is continuing that tradition of leadership by building eminence in several key areas of computer science. This college is also collaborating with other colleges within the University to expand expertise in Information Assurance, Telecommunication System Management and Bioinformatics. As the college can offer graduate students rich resources: a dynamic faculty, state-of-the-art technology support, wide-ranging research opportunities, and a challenging curriculum.

The Department of Residence Life strives to create a community for the residents by planning programs and activities that help students get to know others on their floor and in their residence hall. It also provides services that support the residents in accomplishing their academic and personal goals. Residence Life staff are trained in counseling, crisis intervention, and conflict resolution, as well as interpersonal communications in order to assist the students to achieve their aspirations. Each hall is supervised by a residence director and resident assistants, individuals who maintain close contact with students and who serve as administrators for the buildings. It offers a variety of housing options tied to specific programs of study. These living learning communities offer students a supportive, achievement-oriented environment with opportunities for friendship around common interests as well as continued learning and sharing outside the classroom. Living Learning Communities commonly feature tutoring, advising, and study groups as well as unique programs designed to promote student growth and advancement. It also recognizes that some students prefer to live in an environment of shared values and choices, which the lifestyle and cultural options housing also provides.
