Ringkasan program
This course examines the implication of literature in the colonial encounter and the literary representations of this event. We will read classical texts of European colonialism in dialogue with postcolonial texts from Africa, the Caribbean and Asia. We will begin with an exploration of the literature of empire and look at the ways in which colonialism shaped some canonical European texts. We will then study the range of literary responses emerging from French and British Colonies in Africa, Asia and the Caribbean. Our study will be organized around the themes of representation, identity, power, race, gender, and resistance.
Modul program
Students can have their courses in One African survey course: AAAS 11, 14, or 15. One African American survey course: AAAS 10, 12, or 13. Eight elective Courses which must include at least two courses from each of the following distributive designations: Two courses with SOC, PHR or TAS. Two courses with ART or LIT. Two area courses (in addition to the survey courses) must be among the eight elective courses with one course focused on Africa and one course on African America including the Caribbean. One of the following culminating experience activities: AAAS 90-96: Senior Seminars in AAAS, AAAS 97: Senior Independent Research in AAAS, AAAS 98 & 99: Honors Thesis in AAAS.

Students must have completed their secondary school education and have subsequently enrolled at a college or university and earned credit, in order to be considered for transfer admission. Students are admitted to the freshman class on the basis of strong academic performance in a rigorous course of college preparatory study, especially in the areas of math and science; The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of transfer applicants whose native language is not English and who have not been studying in an English-speaking country for two years or more. The vast majority of students accepted score better than a 600 on the paper-based test or better than 250 on the computer-based test. Students should have SAT or ACT Test for the admission.
