This professionally oriented program emphasizes the competencies required for management careers in business, government, public, or social service organizations. The program prepares students for entering careers with management responsibility by providing a breadth and depth of knowledge about organizations, management fundamentals, techniques, processes, and skills, combined with a foundation in the functional areas of accounting, business law, finance, information systems, operations, and human resource management.

Freshmen and transfer students are usually admitted to pre-major status before admission to this major. A GPA above 2.00 is preferred for the following: 2.5 for students already admitted to the degree-granting college, 2.5 for students transferring from another University of Minnesota college and 2.5 for students transferring from outside the University. Freshmen and transfer students are typically admitted as pre-business students for all B.B.A. majors. Admission to candidacy status, which allows access to upper division LSBE classes, typically occurs at the junior level when students have successfully completed all pre-major (pre-candidacy) course requirements and met all of the GPA standards. Students with a 2.50 UM and overall, 2.00 internal and pre-major are admitted upon completion of pre-major courses; students with a 2.00 - 2.49 UM and overall, 2.00 internal and pre-major GPAs are pooled and reviewed for evidence of academic success in LSBE majors.
